Ferragudo, Portugal: church is the flea market

The sunday ritual here is not to go to church for a few hours, but instead to go to the nearest town where the traveling flea market has chosen to set up that week. This makes for a nice sunday drive and some good, old fashioned rummaging through people stuff for sale.

This also gives us a chance to see a lot of this beautiful part of the world. Ferragudo is a small fishing port in the center of the southern Portuguese coast. It sits across the wide mouth of a river and across is the much larger city of Portimão. Ferragudo is a charming small town with one church at the top of the hill overlooking the estuary and the sea. The streets are narrow and colorful and the small town was decorated for some seasonal festivities.
